The Story

Hi, my name is Olexiy Kryvych and I’m the writer-director of “Leap.” I wrote the “Leap” feature script a year and a half ago when I realized that so much of what I wanted in life was dictated by habits, society, parents, friends, and circumstances. My desires were not my own and I was living the life of “have to,” instead of “want to.” At that moment, I decided that I’ve had enough and started to change the pattern.

Leap is a metaphorical story of that journey. With this film, I’m hoping to show everyone that it’s okay to want a better life, to choose yourself, to find yourself, and trust your inner voice once again!

Synopsis:
Leap is a 15-minute scene from the feature-length version of the film. It follows Jess, a talented dancer, who lost her sight 7 years ago when her mother passed away, and since then had to give up her dancing career and take care of her sister Sam.

We find her tired, beaten by life and the responsibilities she had to assume since her mother’s death. After one of her massage clients tells her about an artistic support group, she reluctantly agrees to go.

The film is an excerpt of one of these meetings, where she dances for the first time in 7 years. In the scene, her worst nightmares come to life, but through her work with Peter, the founder of the support group, she overcomes them and sees hope for the future.

In August of 2022 my DP, Spencer Greene, and I shot a small 5-minute scene to give everyone an idea of the look and the feel of the film.

In December, we’re trying to scale up and tell a bigger, and more powerful story in hopes to get funding for the feature film.

90% of the money will go towards hiring a crew and actors, that can bring this vision to life. The rest of the money will go towards securing locations and food. We’ll have 2 shooting days in 2 locations in the second week of December.
It is important to us that everyone is safe on set, so we'll be acquiring COVID tests for everyone to take 2 days before production starts. Everyone on set will be encouraged to stay home if they are sick or unwell in any capacity.
We plan to have 4 weeks of post-production, having the director's cut done by January 15th.
By the end of February, the film will be submitted to high and mid-tier festivals to get as much traction as possible, as well as shown to producers and investors.
