The Story
“My son is a buuuuuuug!”
Peter can be heard screaming this phrase over and over in the lobby of the Department of Human Metamorphosis with increasing intensity. His grief encapsulates the boldness and absurdity of the film, the themes our project explores, and fears we all share as human beings and filmmakers.
Last fall, three friends got together to transform their lives with a collaborative film. This was the start of the Metamorphosis, a tale of a simple family who experience a strange, unimaginable change - their young boy is becoming a bug!
Our vision of the classic, “The Metamorphosis,” focuses on the family’s point of view and their collective attempt to save their son within a broken and unhelpful society. Dramatic scenes emerge from a forgotten world of classic Hollywood reminiscent of Orson Wells and Alfred Hitchcock. The cinematic style is playful through the use of practical effects and authentic performances. Our take is a blend of what we love from then and who we are now.
The Metamorphosis film project is about halfway through with five more weekends to film. We have spent our own earnings as well as $10k via GoFundMe on a camera, lenses, rentals, art supplies and food. To cross the finish line, we need to raise at least $14k to cover the remaining production dates. Because of our success so far, we're getting good at knowing what the costs will be for each shoot and have laid out our needs on our Wishlist page.
This film is being edited throughout production. We hope to have the finished film by the end of the year. Our goal is to have viewing parties in the cities that supported us and to submit to festivals around the country. With the success of the Metamorphosis, we don't intend to stop there and have our sights on delivering two more films as a three part film anthology.
One way or the other, we will finish this film. Will you join us?

About This Team
Our team is a collective of familiar allies and creatives brought in based on their unique talents. Our director of photography, Christiana Charalambous joined the project early on after meeting with director Douglas Park. Her creativity and adaptability perfectly matches our director's vision.
Christiana's familiarity behind the camera sets the tone for each frame and her cinematic style guides each shoot.
Our art department grows thanks to the our director's strong artistic vision. Kyle Kaldhusdal delivers incredibly detailed design with his props and set dressings to reflect an era from decades before. Each cast member is dressed and styled by Zuzu Snyder who is passionate about vintage attire.
We are fortunate to work with Walter Welsh on special effect make-up and Rayne McKinley Mason for expertise on puppetry.
Each shoot brings together a different set of characters who bring life to the frame and help us reach our goal. We are so lucky to be surrounded by talented and inspiring people. Visit our website for more: https://metamorphosis.film/cast-and-crew/crew
