The Story

We open focusing Myh’s face, smiling beautifully, dressed in a Filipino terno gown, as if it’s her own wedding, walking down the aisle, with a quick look to the groom. We then realize it’s not Myh’s wedding, but the ceremony of another woman, whom we soon find out is her sister, Mari.
At Mari’s reception, complete with Lechon (roasted pig) as Myh prepares her David Letterman like top 10 list of why it’s better for your younger sister to get married, her father interrupts to give Myh the news that she now has Sukob (bad luck in marriage), so she must not only collect a token payment from her sister Mari for getting married before her, BUT also find someone soon to marry before Myh’s 50th birthday.
As a fiercely independent woman, she is not easily swayed by the “knight in shining armor fantasy” leaving her dating experience short lived or quick flings. With her parents having an arranged marriage, Myh is not quite sure what love is, except from the romantic comedies that she secretly loves. With the knowledge of Sukob, Myh goes into def con one - using everything and anything - from dating apps, crashing bachlorette parties, etc., to break this curse that she has come to believe she is under, only to discover love comes from unexpected places.

Oh Myh Dating Hell is a a re-imagined pilot of this rom com series that takes the best moments of previous episodes and past storylines and mashing it with the race to fight off a Filipino curse called Sukob.
In terms of comps, it's a mash up of The Mindy Project x Sex & the City x Friends

Why am I re-imagining this series?
If you happened to see our original pilot episode, What's the Status, to our 4th episode, Let Love Flow - we've come a long way with many lessons learned while celebrating our successes along the way. One of the biggest takeaways in pitching a series is that it takes a team of creatives who have the same passion of bringing a series to screen, to go from film festival success to streaming online or onto network television. Building this series is much like dating: we are looking for the right partners who will see the love, want to grow with us, and take us to the finish line: DISTRIBUTION. All the best elements over our series episodes will be repackaged with an additional writer we will be bringing on, will strengthen the pilot with more laughter, vulnerability, interconnectedness, and suspense to the series.
Why Myhraliza?
Guess what? I am still single! So I am the perfect person to continue telling this story.
Dating in my 20s was hard. But dating past my "prime age" of my 20s for marriage is SUPER HARD. This is a familiar sentiment that MANY single women in their 40s and beyond can relate to. This story honors the many single, bad ass women out there who are living independently, loving life, and perhaps looking for love - where love can look different than the kind of relational/marriage material love that we've learn to be the goal in life. OMDH explores what love really means and does marriage really define ever lasting love?
We are also at a time where representation continues to MATTER and while we have made progress, for various Asian populations, we have yet to see a Filipino family at the center. Most romantic comedy series center their leads in their 20s or even 30s, but there has not been one that centers around a professional woman in her 40+ years, let alone centering on a Filipina lead. Now is the time to give Oh Myh Dating Hell the platform it deserves where women who will relate to Myh’s story and cheer Myh on in her quest for love, as they will ultimately be cheering for themselves.
Why are you raising money for development?
And what does that mean?
We're raising money for development to support our rebrand efforts in terms of rewrites (building the team of writers) as well as bringing on a skeletal crew whom we want to pay what they are worth. These development funds will help build seed capital to steward larger investors to complete fundraising.
Crowdfunding now provides us the opportunity to opt into Gold House's AAPI rally on Seed & Spark - the Renaissance Rally. If our project is selected, we'll receive $10,000 and be invited to the Gold Pitch Event at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)! Our hope is that by participating in the Renaissance Rally, we will showcase our story that not only builds upon the audience we have already built, but that demonstrates that championing a story like Oh Myh Dating Hell aligns with the mission of Gold House and the Renaissance Rally.
These development funds are only a small stepping stone to the large picture of going into production for a 6-8 episode series, where each episode is estimated to cost $1-$2 million/episode. Our goal with the development funds is create a strong base so that aftewards, we will be able to approach private investors to raise the cost of the entire series.
Our Plans & Stretch Goals...
Our campaign goal of $8,000 is the bare minimum for development and we welcome raising beyond this amount so that we can go into production:
If we raise $10,000 we’ll be able to bring on another writer to create a team of writers to finesse and sharpen our script.
If we raise $15,000 we’ll be able to bring on a cinematographer to work with our director to storyboard and create a shot list.
If we raise $20,000 we'll hire a casting director to begin securing talent!
If we raise $25,000 we’ll be able to hire an amazing cast of talented artist who will have you laughing and crying through each episode
If we raise $30,000 we'll be able to location scout and bring on a production designer for all the amazing dates Myh will be having!
If we raise $35,000 we’ll be able to hire a hair and make up artist + wardrobe stylist to help Myh, her entoruge, and dates pop on screen!
If we raise $40,000 we'll be able to have contingency funds should we encounter unforeseen hiccups!
