For years, queers (among others) have explored non-monogamy in various forms. How do we navigate the joys and awkwardness of open relationships in today's fast-paced, app-driven hookup culture? "Open" is a comedic short that dives into the funny, the sexy, and the high drama of these relationships.

Mission Statement

As an artistic team, our goal is to inspire and uplift through art, showcasing the messy, beautiful reality of queer life. We aim to fund a production that reflects modern, relatable queer experiences, enriching our collective understanding.

The Story

Two longtime boyfriends, Marcus and Jess, try to open their relationship, leading to Marcus' chance encounter with Alfie. After bringing him home, Marcus finds himself hiding the truth from Alfie when Jess forgets to stay out of their apartment.

Open is in pre-production and we need the funds for this important piece of art.

Filming is scheduled for July 2025.

WHY THIS STORY?

Open is envisioned by Jacobi, brought to life with a dedicated queer cast and crew. Our mission is to delve into the seldom-explored nuances of our relationships, highlighting the dance between togetherness and vulnerability. This film seeks to embrace the insecurity, embarrassment, and genuine reality of these interactions. By focusing on these private moments, we aim to amplify voices that are frequently silenced, offering a narrative that resonates withheartfelt truth. Our goal is not just to tell a story, but to spark a conversation about the complexities of relationships in a way that is both insightful and profoundly relatable.

CREW

Writer Jacobi

Director Jacob Robert van Winkle

The rest of the cast and crew will be hired soon!

What is the money going towards?

Embarking on the journey of Open has been a profound learning experience. Our aspiration is to share this story far and wide, gathering insights and fostering growth as storytellers through its reception at film festivals globally. Money will be used for hiring actors, filming, editing, and paying for festival submissions. Should we be fortunate enough to exceed our financial goals, the additional funds will be channeled to support local queer artists, uplifting voices that resonate with the heart of our narrative.

Open will have a lean crew, with multiple roles per team member, and unwavering dedication. This endeavor is not just a film for us - it's a tapestry of commitment and resilience. The funds we raise are vital to honor our collective efforts and ensure that Open receives the debut it truly deserves. whole process has been a learning experience and we look forward to the feedback we get when our film premiers at festivals around the world so that we can gain the knowledge to become even better storytellers.
