Mission Statement
The Story
Dani and Nova's story originates in Kimmie Devereux's (Singer-Songwriter, Co-Writer, Associate Producer) experience talking one of her queer fans down from a suicide attempt and James Barker's (Director, Co-Writer, Producer) struggle with depression and suicidal ideation during a visit to a psychiatric hospital in 2018.

The stars aligned, and Kimmie and James joined forces to write a film that will give hope to queer people dealing with their mental health. Richard Ormsby (Producer) joined the team and channeled his queer identity to inform a year's worth of script development.
The result? A 15 page script that has made waves at screenwriting competitions, including Snake Alley Festival of Film, Nashville Film Festival, and Bridgeport Film Fest. Our script is resonating with people.
The Universe Is Calling
Now is the time to stand up to political scapegoating, to spread love for the queer community, and to share a story that elevates visibility for the mental health crisis that disproportionately affects the LGBTQ+ community.

Stories have the power to change us, to shape culture, change opinions, and nurture a culture of love. That's why we chose one of the greatest forces on earth to spread our message. The portability and accessibility of a film means we can reach and inspire the largest possible audience and affect the greatest change.
Our team of queer filmmakers are ready to use the power of cinema to bring Dani and Nova's story to life, to show LGBTQ+ people they're not alone, and to call on everyone to love a little more.
Welcome To Our World
Remnants of Nova tells the story of Dani and Nova in the midst of a chaotic relationship on one cosmically destructive night. The film examines fame, queer love, mental health, and cosmic destruction.

Dani Cadieux is a rising queer artist, garnering a large social media following that has led to her first opening act slot. Nova, her romantic partner and the band’s guitarist, has been struggling with depression for years. As Dani’s career takes hold, Nova starts to feel isolated, left on the sideline, no longer a priority.
The morning of the show, with a flare of anxiety and depression, Nova drops out of the band. In a fury, Dani gives Nova an ultimatum, play in the show or she will break it off with them. Nova and Dani break up, leaving Dani without her guitarist and emotional lifeline. Dani scrambles to find a replacement and get her show off without any hiccups, the pressure mounting each passing minute.
Dani goes on with the show and Nova attempts suicide.
Will their love for each other be enough to survive the night and pull them back together?
Our Timeline
Our producing team has already invested a year of work and personal funds to get Remnants of Nova to this point, and we're dedicated to seeing this project through to exhibition.

With your financial support, and our crew of talented (and queer!) artisans, we will start production in January 2024, finish post-production in April 2024, and start submitting to festivals in May 2024. We've built a timeline grounded in our crew's expertise and based in reality. After many conversations and a whole lot of planning, we're certain we can successfully fulfill our vision and share this film with the world by next summer.
Once we make connections at festivals across the country, and bring home some wins, starting in November 2025 through the end of 2026, we'll finish developing a feature script and start pitching the feature film to international sales agents and institutional investors.
The Big Picture
This short film will serve as a "proof-of-concept" to prove to future investors that our story is important enough to turn into a feature film. With a feature, we can execute on our mission to spread queer love to the widest possible audience, involve that audience in a strategic impact campaign, and allow us to build a business model that perpetuates our ability to make dynamic queer films long into the future.
We'll forge a partnership with a non-profit to guide us in a transformation-focused initiative that will work in tandem with the film. This impact campaign will add a unique and important piece to our feature film.

The film will make audiences feel something and inspire people to act on those feelings by providing a framework for cultural unity and actionable change. This is the part that calls on audiences to make real change in their communities, whether that be volunteering at a local LGBTQ center or taking concerted political action to protect LGBTQ+ people.
We've already partnered with The Peyton Heart Project to spread suicide awareness at our launch event, and we're exploring an advisory partnership with GLAAD for the feature.

About This Team
Our team is made up of true cinephiles. Believers in the power of cinema. And, professionals in their field of expertise. Each of us has a personal connection to Remnants of Nova, to the film industry, and the LGBTQ+ community. These personal and professional connections allow us to pool our passion and resources together to collaborate effectively and reach our goals.

James Barker (he/they) is a self described multi-cellular chemical reaction. Through a lifelong struggle with depression and suicidal ideation, James is a strong advocate for mental heath awareness, especially for young people. In all of their projects, James looks for the most empathetic and honest view of the human experience, showcasing the everlasting dichotomy we each struggle with every day.
James is an award winning writer and director thanks to his film Pocket Full of Sunshine (2017). As an editor, he is currently working on a docu-series for Showtime Basketball and a documentary short about one family's survival in Poland during the Holocaust.

Kimmie Devereux (she/her) is using her music as a way to raise support and awareness around causes close to her heart — mental health and LGBTQ+ safe spaces.
The openly proud lesbian and New Jersey native moved to Nashville in 2021 and soon after went viral on TikTok posting her catchy and sexy song, 'Like A Drug' and LGBTQ+ pop anthem, 'Queen'.
Devereux says, "Now that I’ve got people’s attention, I want to show them my heart, because I’m not always fun and sexual — I have things to say,” Often compared to artists like Fletcher, Chelsea Cutler, and Demi Lovato, Kimmie is excited to be a part of the growing community of queer pop artists.

Richard Ormsby (he/him) is a producer, writer, and marketer raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and based in Los Angeles. During the day, he leads marketing and growth initiatives for Media Services, an entertainment payroll, software, and finance firm specializing in independent film.
His experience spans short and long form content, notably serving as Assistant Director for The Wanting Mare (2020). His proximity to the heart of the entertainment industry has allowed him to work alongside independent producers, festival coordinators, guild analysts, screenwriters, and industry thought leaders.
Richard’s personal experience brings a queer perspective to everything, from story to hiring. His aptitude for business management and marketing will allow him to deliver professional marketing campaigns, efficiently manage cash flow, and successfully bring Remnants of Nova to market.
