The Story
If you’ve supported us before, welcome back! If this is your first time hearing about us, welcome to the cause!
This is our story, told by queer people for everyone.
Our title characters, Dani and Nova, started with Kimmie Devereux’s (Singer-Songwriter, Writer, Associate Producer) experience talking one of her queer fans down from a suicide attempt and James Barker’s (Director, Writer, Producer) struggle with depression and suicidal ideation during a visit to a psychiatric hospital.

Then the stars aligned. James, Kimmie, and Richard Ormsby (Producer) joined forces and developed a script (that received acclaim in screenwriting competitions, including Snake Alley Festival of Film, Nashville Film Festival, and Bridgeport Film Festival) and finished production of the film this past January with the help of a talented cast and crew. We’re just getting started.
(Here's a peek behind the scenes!)

With production wrapped, footage in hand, and a first edit of the film done, we need your help to complete post-production. We need your help to spread our message of love and hope for the LGBTQ+ community.
Thanks to a prestigious grant won by our cinematographer Emily Kordovich (Fresh Perspectives in Cinematography), not only did we have the latest and greatest camera equipment to craft this story, we have our first opportunity to screen Remnants of Nova for a well-connected audience at Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles this June 6.
Help us make it happen, donate today!
The Big Picture
This short film is a proof-of-concept to prove to future investors that this story is so urgent it needs to be a feature film.
With a feature, we can execute on our goal to spread love and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community to the widest possible audience, encourage them to take part in a social impact campaign, and allow us to reinvest in future high-quality queer storytelling by queer people for everyone.

Just as we partnered with The Peyton Heart Project to raise suicide awareness at our production fundraiser event, we plan on partnering with a non-profit to advise on a framework our community can use to make real change in their lives and others, whether that be volunteering at their local LGBTQ+ center or taking political action to protect LGBTQ+ people.
Our Post-Production Timeline
Thanks to nearly two years of development, a week of filming, and the support of our generous donors, the production phase of Remnants of Nova is complete and post-production has begun in a race to meet our June 6 screening deadline.

With your financial support we can make it happen.
It all starts with the edit. By the end of March 2024, the editor will pass a final cut to the visual effects supervisor and music composer, who will each finish their work by mid April 2024. Color correction and sound mastering will be completed by mid May 2024, with final deliverables handed back to the producing team at the end of May, our deadline for submitting the film to be screened is Los Angeles at the Cine Gear Expo in June 2024.
The Cine Gear LA Expo 2024 is our first opportunity to screen Remnants of Nova to gauge a well-connected audience’s reaction, and make contacts. The event is a stepping stone to finding our future investors and driving real change for queer people.
After the expo, your donation to this campaign will support a healthy festival run, as advised by a festival consultant, to get the film in front of audiences, build an online presence, broaden our network of queer filmmakers, and increase our chances of finding the right investor to make Remnants of Nova a feature film.

About This Team
Our team is made up of true cinephiles and professionals in their field of expertise. Each of us has a personal connection to Remnants of Nova, to the film industry, and the LGBTQ+ community. These personal and professional connections allow us to pool our passion and resources together to collaborate effectively and reach our goals.

James Barker (he/they) is a self described multi-cellular chemical reaction. Through a lifelong struggle with depression and suicidal ideation, James is a strong advocate for mental heath awareness, especially for young people. In all of their projects, James looks for the most empathetic and honest view of the human experience, showcasing the everlasting dichotomy we each struggle with every day.
James is an award winning writer and director thanks to his film Pocket Full of Sunshine (2017). As an editor, his latest work includes a docu-series for Showtime Basketball and short form beauty content.

Kimmie Devereux (she/her) is using her music as a way to raise support and awareness around causes close to her heart — mental health and LGBTQ+ safe spaces.
The openly proud lesbian and New Jersey native moved to Nashville in 2021 and soon after went viral on TikTok posting her catchy and sexy song, 'Like A Drug' and LGBTQ+ pop anthem, 'Queen'.
Devereux says, "Now that I’ve got people’s attention, I want to show them my heart, because I’m not always fun and sexual — I have things to say,” Often compared to artists like Fletcher, Chelsea Cutler, and Demi Lovato, Kimmie is excited to be a part of the growing community of queer pop artists.

Richard Ormsby (he/him) is a producer, writer, and marketer currently based in the suburbs of Philadelphia. During the day, he leads marketing and growth initiatives for Media Services, an entertainment payroll, software, and finance firm specializing in independent film.
His experience spans short and long form content, notably serving as Assistant Director for The Wanting Mare (2020). His 5-year stint in Los Angeles allowed him to work alongside independent producers, festival coordinators, guild analysts, screenwriters, and industry thought leaders.
Richard’s personal experience brings a queer perspective to everything, from story to hiring. His aptitude for business management and marketing will allow him to deliver professional marketing campaigns, efficiently manage cash flow, and successfully bring Remnants of Nova to market.

Savannah Bayse (she/they) is a creative type: a video editor, writer, and filmmaker who loves getting lost in a story. Through their own struggle with chronic depression, “Remnants of Nova” is a project close to Savannah’s heart.
With over six years of professional experience, Savannah’s most recent credit is editor on the scripted feature: Uppercut (2024). Their previous credits include: “The 5th Man” (2022) Dir. Trey Nelson, “Pool With Two Figures” (2020) Dir. Patrick Cressler, and their own film “Holdfast” (2017).
As an assistant editor, Savannah has worked on “Hip Hop Treasures” for A&E (2023), the short documentary “The Rush” (2020) Dir. Rebecca Stern, the web-series “America Will Be” Dir. Dara Kell, and “Shadows Fall North” (2016) Dir. Brain Vawter.
She has also edited numerous branded content videos and commercials for various clients such as: Monday.com, Nasdaq, Samsung, and House of SpeakEasy.

Mark DePasquale (he/him) is an award winning writer and director with the added specialty of VFX artistry. He is a full time VFX Supervisor at Atlantic Pictures, where he oversees both post and on-set visual effects for film and television productions across the nation. His credits include VFX Supervision on productions for BET+, Netflix, Madison Square Garden, and many more.
