Eva finds herself on a solo honeymoon in New York after a devastating break-up on the eve of her wedding. Over pizza, walks around the neighborhood and a budding friendship with Marvin, an elderly neighbor who lost his wife, she begins to embrace this next chapter of her life.

With the stoops of Greenwich Village, the sensory delights of Jackson Heights and the buzzing city streets as a backdrop, Table for One is a love letter to New York, and to the possibilities of what can happen when we embrace an unexpected detour. 

Meet Eva: Mid-thirties, Midwestern sweet, the type who sends handwritten thank-you notes. An accountant and former straight-A student, Eva has always had a plan. But the end of her 10-year relationship with Eddie, her fiancé, wasn’t part of it. Devastated but determined not to sit and wallow, she decides to go on their honeymoon anyway. She’s always wanted to go to New York.

Meet Marvin: Late 70s, grandfatherly, the kind of man who goes to bridge on Sundays and reads The New York Times in full. Born and raised in Kentucky, he moved to the city last year after the death of his wife of 50 years. It was her favorite. He lives down the hall from the apartment Eva stays at.

According to a 2019 Morgan Stanley forecast and U.S. Census Bureau data, 45 percent of women ages 25 to 44 will be single by 2030. This - up from 41 percent in 2018 -  would be the largest share in history. Research shows that single women are thriving: they report higher sexual satisfaction, relationship status satisfaction and life satisfaction than single men. Still, engagements, marriage and having children are disproportionately celebrated compared to life events of single people. For those not in the midst of these milestones, this life chapter can feel lonely. 

This is a story for anyone who’s ever felt like the only single friend, like they’re falling behind, like their timeline isn’t panning out. And a glimpse at what can happen when we let go of all that and embrace what is. 

We plan to utilize natural light, warm colors and the incomparable essence of New York in the fall. We’ll capture the quiet beauty and calm of Greenwich Village, and the vibrant energy of Jackson Heights, with most of our scenes set outside. We want our audience to fall for New York, just as Eva does. 

Movement is key to our story: as Eva moves through the city, she begins to experience internal movement as well, becoming more confident doing things alone. We plan to shoot several scenes with a steadicam to capture this transient motion most effectively as we explore the city on foot with her. 

About Us: We are NorCal-raised family friends from childhood who found ourselves in entertainment in NYC. Jacqueline comes from the theater world; Rachel's background is in sports TV. Both of us have professionally expanded into filmmaking and are especially passionate about telling character-driven women's stories. You can read more about us in the "Team" tab.

The funds we raise will cover pre-production, production and post-production costs. 

We’ve crafted a registry (wedding style!) that breaks down what we need for an operational 3-day shoot and ensures our cast and crew feel taken care of and set up for success. 

We plan to make this film with an all female, non-binary and trans crew. In 2025, The New York Times found that women directed just 8.1% of the top 100 box office hits. The percentage of female cinematographers is even lower, at about 7% of the top 250 highest-grossing films, based on a 2024 estimate reported by Forbes. We are proud to assemble a talented group of artists to bring this woman’s story to life.

3) NYC Shoot: We'll film over three days in late October

4) Post: In addition to production costs, the funds we raise through this campaign will also cover post-production needs, including hiring an editor, colorist, composer and sound mixer.

5) Premiere! We’ll premiere locally in NYC for our cast, crew, friends, family and supporters of the film.

6) Get this show on the road: Your contribution will also help us introduce the film to the industry through the festival circuit. We plan to target competitive and thematically aligned festivals both domestically and internationally.
