After capturing a strange wolf-like creature in a vast wood, a hungry young girl must resist its charms, and find food and medicine for her wounded father before it’s too late. The Fell is led by a team of queer, femme, and trans artists, and will shoot sustainably on Cape Cod this spring.

Mission Statement

In a time where queer and trans people are under attack, The Fell offers an alternative: a seductive nightmare, and a terrifying catharsis. The Fell is a deliciously original entry into the queer horror canon, showcasing monstrous complexity and roaring to be heard.

The Story

In the coastal forrest, in a faded past, bright-eyed Snail and her Father encounter a powerful threat. The Fell: a wolf disguised in handsome mortal flesh. Wounded by the beast, Father knows the only way to tame their captive is to sever it from its false skin. But Snail is drawn to the beast’s song, its strange, roguish charm, and its promise to sate her hunger. Will Snail stay loyal to her Father, or will her blossoming connection with the Fell bear forbidden fruit?

We are a team of queer, trans, femme, and LGBTQIA+ filmmakers, drawn together by a shared desire to create scrappy, biting, complicated art in these uncertain times. The Fell stars Han Van Sciver in the titular role (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Elsbeth, Regulars, This is Not a Place of Honor), and is written by Matt Minnicino (I Prefer Monsters, Tape, Mine). Randall Snare is directing (The Biting Tree, Have a Heart), who previously collaborated with Van Sciver on the short film Has Anyone Else Lost Their Body? Our lead producer is Yirssi (Queer Eye, The MET Gala, Project Runway), who met Van Sciver on the feature film Regulars.

We know film is a visual medium, so - here are some of the faces of our team:

The Fell is The Witch meets I Saw The TV Glow: queer, coming of age body horror with a twistIt's a period folktale told through the lens of queer adolescence, examining transformation and the seductive power of what is deemed monstrous. Our setting is a vast, untamed wood, slowly taking over a young girl as her father loses control. It's a fable drenched in pre-industrial terror, but with explosive contemporary relevance. Methodically-paced and seeping with eerie, period detail, and visceral language and imagery, The Fell offers us all a horrific catharsis.

WANT A TASTE?

We spent the fall making script edits, and assembling our fantastic creative team. We hosted a pre-production launch in December, gathering in cozy Red Hook, Brooklyn.

In mid-January, our team traveled to Cape Cod, where Van Sciver and assistant director Sarah Lyons (The Woods) grew up together, making films as teenagers. We scouted shooting locations, and settled on some thrilling spots.

As we move deeper into pre-production, creating our storyboard, conducting screen tests, and building out our full production team, we need your help to secure the funding to make this project happen!

Making films isn't cheap. See a detailed breakdown of our costs under "Wishlist." Our priority is to pay people ethically and create sustainably, while making the absolute highest quality project possible. We know all too well what a difficult time it is for independent artists, for queer and trans folks, and for radical creatives. We're making something bold, brash, and beautiful anyway. But we can't do it without you.
