Mission Statement
The Story
Noor
is a romantic drama peppered with magical realism. It’s the story of an immigrant Arab woman, earthy and intense, who desperately longs for connection.
After moving her out to the middle-of-nowhere, Noor’s husband Wael is consistently unavailable, chained to his desk. He schluffs off Noor’s every attempt to engage, leaving her bored and utterly isolated.
When temptation arrives in the form of an ever-chopping, lumber-sexual neighbor, Noor must choose to live in the past or step bravely into an unknown future.
After a year of collective grief and isolation, our creative team aims to expose the shadow of grief that follows us after a loss; the way that grief can distort reality. Noor struggles not only with the loss of a loved one, but a loss of her motherland, her language, culture, and ultimately, a part of herself. It takes great courage to mourn and rebuild. Noor’s bravery represents the absolute necessity and expansiveness of hope.
LOVE & LOSS
الحب والخسارة
Ultimately, we want the ending to mark the difficulty of letting go, especially when our physical home has become something unfamiliar. Surviving loss is the bravest thing any human will have to do in this lifetime.
HOME & IDENTITY
الموطن والهويّة
Thousands of miles from all that is familiar, Noor and Wael find home in each other. “Home” is in the Arabic they speak to each other, the maqlooba she prepares, the coffee she brews in her ركوة (or rakwa), and the trinkets that adorn their cabin. Incorporating these elements means crafting a story that is visually rich and authentic.
POSITIVE MENA REPRESENTATION
التمثيل الايجابي
It is crucial that we change the way Middle Eastern and North African (MENA), and Muslim characters are portrayed on screen. The MENA region is not a monolith. Rather, it’s a wonderful symphony of cuisine, culture, fashion, religion, and language. Noor and Wael present a nuanced and celebratory portrayal of Arab characters and culture, furthering the much needed effort for more positive and authentic on-screen MENA portrayals.
Your monetary contributions will help bring Noor to life. Every dollar raised will go directly towards production and post-production costs. What exactly does this look like? We’ll break it down for you - it’s as easy as baking a pie!

We are humbled to have assembled a crew that includes award-winning industry veterans, whose Emmy Award-winning works have been featured in shows like Insecure, Transparent, and Raven’s Home. Our team members have worked for Vice, Al Jazeera, and on Beyonce’s Black is King, just to name a few. As supporters of gender parity across the Film and TV landscape, we’ve built our team to comprise at least 70% women-identifying and/or non-binary gender fluid folx.

Noor has been accepted as a finalist for Women In Media’s CAMERAderie BOOST Initiative, which seeks to support the emerging voices and talents of Women in Media (WIM) members. We are grateful to WIM for believing in our story, for understanding it’s relevance, and for trusting in our team of highly talented and hard-working creators to bring this story to life.
Through the CAMERAderie Incubator, our team will receive the resources to elevate our work to a studio level, including Arri cameras, lenses and lights, MBS Equipment Co., permits, insurance, expendables, and workshop space. Our crew will receive guided development, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. CAMERAderie has launched the careers of previous participants, landing them feature deals at Universal, agents, greenlit features, commercial directing gigs, and incredible relationships. Last year’s shorts are premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival this summer! We are incredibly excited for the opportunity to raise our production value and learn from the incredible women of WIM.
