The Story
Lifelong friends Amanda and Karen lock themselves in a backyard bunker in fear of an impending apocalypse. Their instructions? Wait for Jared, Karen's prepper boyfriend. Flash forward two months later (no Jared), and all is not well in Bunkerville. After not-so-careful deliberation, the two emerge into a world that's eerily empty and quickly find themselves hunkering down in Karen’s home, terrified of the unknown. As they navigate survival, mild inconvenience, and possibly Zombies(?) tensions boil and the questions mount. What happened? Where is Jared? What is that smell? As they struggle to survive in a grid-down world, one big secret will test their friendship.
They survived the apocalypse, but can they survive each other?

In the fall of 2025, we realized something exciting: we actually had enough momentum to make Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think happen. In the Spring of 2026, we made the giant leap from talking about making a movie to actually FILMING the movie!
Between our investors, an incredible core team, support from family and friends, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback the screenplay received in competitions, all the pieces were suddenly in place. So we did it! We made a movie... mostly.
Like most indie filmmakers, we would’ve loved to have every dollar secured before cameras rolled, but filmmaking rarely works that way. So we are here today, asking you to join us in bringing this film to life. With your help, we can get this movie through post-production and out into the world for all to enjoy. Because we all need a little heartwarming levity in our lives!

Are you a big fan of Shaun of the Dead? Do you have an encyclopedic knowledge of '80s and '90s movies? Do you find yourself answering life's questions with movie quotes? Then you're our kind of people and you are going to love Turns Out It's the Apocalypse... We Think.
Yes, the movie takes place during the apocalypse, but it's not all doom and gloom. Turns Out is packed with laughs, heart, friendship, and the kind of weird dark humor that comes about at the end of the world.
This is a movie for people who love character-driven comedies, cult classics, and stories that laugh through the chaos. It's for fans of apocalypse movies who secretly care more about the people than the zombies. If you’re the kinda guy who laughs at a funeral…
If you enjoy films like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Night of the Comet, or the offbeat charm of '80s and '90s genre movies, you'll feel right at home in our bunker.

We are Natalie, Tara, Mike, and Allison. We are the duos behind Sneaky Pineapple Productions and Evening Squire Productions.
Collectively, we have taken our shorts and features to over 100 different festivals across the globe and have won multiple awards including Best Feature, Best Short, Best Actor, and Best Director. We have years of experience in building and marketing truly independent films, and with our powers combined, the sky's the limit. We’re excited about where this film will take us —and our new Bunker Buddies!
Not to mention the incredible crew we were able to put together in Alabama and the surrounding area!!

A lot of the magic of filmmaking happens in post-production. Even after we’ve shot the movie and pieced together the edit, there’s still an incredible amount of work left to transform raw footage into a finished film.
This is where an amazing team of artists and technicians step in to elevate everything you see and hear on screen.
For Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think, our finishing funds will go toward editing, color grading, visual effects, original score, and post-production sound. These final steps are what make a movie truly come alive. They shape the tone, tension, comedy, atmosphere, and emotional impact of every scene.
It’s the difference between "Giving Mid" and "Giving Cinema"

At its core, Turns Out, It’s the Apocalypse... We Think is about trust, uncertainty, and the slow unraveling of the mind when answers never come. Karen and Amanda are not survival experts or action heroes. They’re ordinary people facing an unimaginable situation with only half-baked theories, dwindling supplies, and an increasingly fragile friendship. The film explores what happens when survival is less about fighting external threats and more about holding on to one’s sense of reality.
In a world where constant crises dominate the headlines, it's easy to relate to the characters’ paranoia and desperate search for meaning. Karen copes by confiding in Wolfenstein, a golden wolf statue, while Amanda documents their experience like a detective without a case. Meanwhile, Jared’s notebook (held in secret by Amanda) symbolizes how fear and uncertainty can fracture even the closest relationships. The film uses humor as both a coping mechanism and a form of denial, blending absurdity and dread as arguments over game nights escalate into existential crises.
What makes the film so compelling is its blend of grounded realism and unsettling oddities, like crows that seem too knowing and piles of abandoned clothes that hint at something truly strange. It’s a character study wrapped in mystery, where the real tension comes from the strain between two people trying to maintain their bond as the world unravels around them, which is something we can all relate to simply by turning on the news.

Originally written as a web series, Natalie and Tara created this feature-length script as a love letter to their almost 20-year friendship and collaboration. They wanted to examine the ups and downs of working together while also being best friends, and what better environment to set that in than at the end of the world?

Like most independent filmmakers, our goal is simple: get Turns Out It's the Apocalypse... We Think in front of as many people as possible.
Our first step will be a targeted film festival run. Over the past several years, we've built strong relationships with festivals across the country, and we plan to leverage those connections and expand to introduce Turns Out to audiences who love cult-classic storytelling. Festivals not only help filmmakers find audiences—they also create opportunities to connect with distributors, sales agents, and press.
Beyond the festival circuit, we believe Turns Out has a unique opportunity to connect with several passionate niche audiences. While the film is first and foremost a comedy, its apocalypse setting naturally overlaps with prepper, survivalist, and self-sufficiency communities. We plan to engage directly with those audiences.

We know that audience building for indie films begins before release. We have been expanding our reach through our podcast, We're Making a Movie, social media, and community support. We plan to continue to engage with our audience, donors, and press throughout the entire post-production, festival, and distribution path.
While we are actively pursuing traditional options, we're also developing strategies to market and release the film ourselves, if needed. Combining a festival run, audience outreach, and direct engagement, we know Turns Out has what it takes to become a cult classic.
