Mission Statement

Our mission is to take Penelope’s maids, relegated to the background of The Odyssey throughout history, and prove through heart, humor, and a dazzling score that these overlooked women deserve the spotlight just as much as the heroes who have dominated Ithaca's narrative for millennia.

The Story

Journey to Bronze Age Greece in this vibrant new musical where love, loyalty, and laughs await. As all of Ithaca holds its breath for the return of King Odysseus, Penelope’s maids—women relegated to the background throughout history—finally take center stage to show you what life is really like in the palace.

Amidst stolen glances, secret alliances, and laugh-out-loud gossip, Twelve Maids flips the classic epic on its head, proving with heart and humor that their stories deserve the spotlight just as much as the heroes who have dominated the narrative for millennia.

Behind the Scenes in Ithaca

Our show emerged from a simple yet profound question: What if the voiceless women in Homer's Odyssey had their own stories to tell? These women have been glossed over and brushed aside across centuries of retellings. In a novel spin, Twelve Maids takes you behind the palace walls during Odysseus’s absence entirely from the POV of the palace maids.

Featuring a dazzling soundscape that weaves traditional and contemporary musical theater with baroque influences, Twelve Maids is sure to excite lovers of myth and musical theater alike.

Twelve Maids represents a deeply collaborative partnership between Amanda Fischler and Adam Gloc. Their 15+ year creative history and friendship bring a unique synergy to the project, with Fischler producing, writing the book and lyrics, and creating the concept and melodies, and Gloc composing, orchestrating, conducting, and music directing.

Together, the team has already begun making their mark on the New York musical theater scene. The music and humor of Twelve Maids have been shared with audiences at 54 Below, The Green Room 42, and Breaking Sound – Brooklyn, proving that Adam’s richly textured score and Amanda’s dynamic lyrics resonate strongly with a live crowd.

Twelve Maids has officially secured a one-month Off-Broadway residency at The Players Theatre in Greenwich Village, running from June 17 to July 18, 2027.

This campaign is the direct bridge between our past concert presentations and our fully realized 2027 production. By joining us on Seed & Spark, you are helping us fund the critical elements needed to bring these overlooked women from the Bronze Age to the Off-Broadway stage.

Why Now?

We are currently living through a massive mythological renaissance, with Greek myth retellings capturing the cultural zeitgeist across film and television (Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Blood of Zeus, etc.), literature (Circe, Ariadne, etc.) and stage (Hadestown, The Lightning Thief, etc.). Revenue from myth-inspired media has increased by 21.2% in the last year alone, signaling a renewed public interest in these ancient tales. Twelve Maids offers a bold new perspective by exploring untold female narratives within this well-known framework.

Mounting a full-scale, one-month Off-Broadway production requires an immense amount of runway, however. While the curtain doesn't rise until June 2027, the real work begins now. Launching this campaign allows us to secure our creative team and cast, kick off essential prep work, and build our foundational community of backers early enough to ensure our run at The Players Theatre is an epic success.

Heading this project are Amanda and Adam, who have taken their 15+ year friendship and creative history and transformed into a dynamic duo set out to add magic and momentum to the landscape of modern musical theater.

The concept and melodies for Twelve Maids were created by Amanda Fischler, who serves as the book writer, lyricist, and producer for this production. Amanda has been performing professionally throughout New York and Florida for over 15 years as a singer, actress, voiceover artist, model, and songwriter. Select theater credits include Life Insurance: The Musical (Symphony Space), Snow White (The Producer's Club), and most recently starring as Melantho in the Twelve Maids staged concerts at 54 Below and The Green Room 42.

Adam Gloc serves as the composer, orchestrator, conductor, and music director for the production. Holding dual degrees in Piano Performance and Music Composition, Adam has spent his career composing and music directing for Off-Broadway productions like Catching Fireflies (The Players Theatre, Philly Fringe) and Life Insurance: The Musical (Symphony Space). He has also collaborated with Broadway heavy-hitters including Maya Days, Neil Berg, and Rita Harvey, bringing a wealth of professional theatrical expertise to Ithaca’s score.

Rounding out the core creative team, Amanda and Adam are thrilled to welcome Brayden Stallman as the director for this production! Brayden is a director, writer, and producer focusing on new work, dance theatre, and classical adaptation. He serves as the Artistic Director for Next Life Theatre company with whom recent credits include For Bastards: A Bastardization of King Lear, Achilles: A New Iliad, and Carmilla: A Dance with Death.

Why Join Us?

We want you with us in the room from day one, sharing in the updates, the milestones, and the journey all the way to opening night. In addition to supporting original work in general, you’re also contributing to the vital movement for greater representation of women’s voices in theater, both on stage and behind the creative table. Twelve Maids embraces these voices and actively looks to collaborate with voices from varied backgrounds, inclusive of all ethnicities, religions, and gender identities.

Transparency is our promise to you! Every dollar raised during this campaign goes directly toward our core production and operating costs. Our initial crowdfunding goal represents the absolute baseline we need to get the show up and running safely. If we surpass our initial goal, our stretch goals will go directly toward enhancing the overall production values and providing vital support elements for our cast and creative team.

The only way we will reach our goal is to expand our network beyond our immediate circles. If you want to help us take these maids from the Bronze Age to the Off-Broadway stage, please consider copying and pasting one of these phrases onto your social media platforms alongside our campaign link:
