Hey, I'm Maria!
San Francisco, California
Hello! I'm a San Francisco filmmaker and owner/operator of MBreauxsia Films. I was a contributing cinematographer on 99%—The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and is distributed by Participant Media (An Inconvenient Truth).
My short film set during the 1980s Salvadoran Civil War, Lucha, won the Frameline33 Audience Award for Best Short, was nominated for an Iris Prize, and is distributed by Peccadillo Pictures. My feature Mother Country premiered at the American Black Film Festival and won a Silver Remi at WorldFest Houston.
Before making movies, I was a solo and sketch comedy performer, acting in such San Francisco venues as Theatre Rhinoceros, Victoria Theatre, Luna Sea, Josie's Cabaret and Juice Joint, Climate Theatre, and Build. I received a Theatre Bay Area New Works Fund grant for The Mark Ten's Fantastic Parade, an original, full-length play produced by Boxcar Theatre, which I wrote and created original music for.
Outside of my film work, I've held roles as manager, technical writer, and copywriter for over 20 years at Bay Area companies and institutions including Stanford University, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Genentech, Proxicom, goBalto, and Marin Software. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Stanford University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Playwriting from San Francisco State University.
