Hey, I'm Shaan!
Los Angeles, California
Shaan Dasani is an actor and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He made his LA stage debut in The Blank Theater’s “The Not Lesbians,” directed by Michael A. Shepperd, taking on the lead role of a transgender college student who is meeting his ex girlfriend for the first time after transition. He went on to work with TeAda Productions movement ensemble piece “Global Taxi Driver”, directed by Award winning performance artist and playwright Leilani Chan, portraying multiple characters – from a flirtatious immigrant taxi driver to a loveable in-over-his-head Uber driver hoping to make money and new friends. In the summer of 2015, Shaan was cast in the lead role of KATE in Queer Classic’s rendition of “The Taming of the Shrew,” directed by Casey Kringlen at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. The following summer he was cast in another Fringe show as "E.Q." award winning playwright Sean Graney's absurdist dark comedy "Porno Dido," directed by Heather Tyler.
Shaan soon ventured into the on camera acting world, quickly landing lead roles in commercials for Google and Wells Fargo. Film credits include indie dramas 'MAKING A MARK' (dir: Gaurav Bhatnagar) and 'RIVER' directed by Chapman University alum Sam Crainich. Most recently, Shaan earned eligibility status to join the Screen Actor's Guild for his work on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. He is constantly training to hone in on his craft as a commercial, comedic & dramatic actor.
Prior to venturing into the acting world, Shaan learned the art of storytelling from behind the camera. With an MFA from Chapman University, and as an alumni of Film Independent’s Project:Involve program, he has written & directing over 30 short films, commercials, music videos. In 2010, Shaan directed a short film for world re-known Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman's Indo-Peace concert in Australia, as the South Asian community living there was facing unprecedented attacks. Rahman's free concert was held in an effort to build bridges and unity. The film screened live in front of 40,000 fans.
In 2013, Shaan was invited to join the Director's Guild of America (D.G.A.) and has been a member since.
