Mission Statement

This film harnesses music’s healing power to transcend time and culture—deepening bonds, unearthing memory, and stirring the soul. More than sound, music becomes connection, healing, and proof that love endures across distance, time, and grief.

The Story

Hi, we are the cast and crew of Conselho, and we are inviting you to be part of something deeply personal.

Conselho” is not just a short film—it’s a love letter to the invisible threads that tie us to the ones we’ve lost. It’s about how music—especially the songs passed down from generation to generation—can transcend time and space to reconnect us to our roots, our identity, and our deepest griefs and joys.

Set against the rhythm of a beloved Portuguese song, “Conselho” (which means “Comfort”), this story follows a woman, heartbroken and adrift, who is carried back to Brazil by a melody. Through music, she is transported into vivid memories of her mother—her lullabies, her warmth, her voice. These memories aren’t just sentimental—they’re a lifeline. A reminder of who she is and where she comes from.

Conselho” is a testament to the healing power of music and its ability to forge connections across time, distance, and pain.

This is a powerful, beautiful story about two friends who deepen their bond through heartbreak, echoing the poignant, nostalgic connection the protagonist once shared with her mother—a love that now only exists in memory.

Why now?

Because in a world full of disconnection, grief, and cultural fragmentation, stories like this help us heal. This film is for anyone who has lost someone, anyone who has longed for home, anyone who has been saved by a song. With so many of us searching for grounding and meaning, now is the moment to tell this story.

Why me?

This story inspired by our own experience of loss, memory, and cultural identity. As a filmmakers, we believe in storytelling that feels, that breaks something open inside you, that offers not just entertainment but catharsis. We've lived this story. Now, we want to share it—with your help.

Why you?

Because this film can’t exist without a community. Your support doesn’t just fund equipment and crew—it breathes life into a vision. You become part of the heartbeat of this film, part of the chorus singing this story into the world.

THE MUSIC

LISTEN TO THE SONG HERE

The vibe of "Conselho":

  • The word "conselho" means "advice" in Portuguese, and that’s the core of the song.
  • The lyrics are filled with life wisdom and encouragement, often interpreted as advice to someone going through tough times.
  • Its message is simple and uplifting: don't let yourself be dragged down by sadness or defeat. Get up, move forward, and trust life.

Sample of the lyrics in Portuguese:

Deixa de lado esse baixo astral
Erga a cabeça, enfrente o mal
Que agindo assim será vital
Para o seu coração

Translation:

Let go of that bad mood
Lift your head, face the evil
Acting like this will be vital
For your heart

It’s one of those classic sambas that feels like a warm hug from a wise friend or elder—gentle, but firm. Rooted in resilience. We're lucky enough to have secured the rights to this beautiful and iconic song.

THE VISUALS

The film will be visually stunning, blending the passage of time through flashbacks, memories, and present-day moments. Music plays a central role, bridging the gaps between time and evoking the warmth of friendship, all while underscoring the deep connection that transcends the pain of loss.

THE BUDGET

FILMING LOCATION

We were fortunate to secure a beautiful home as our filming location, featuring stunning limestone and wooden elements, and large windows that bathe the space in natural light. The cost for this location was $3,500, which we paid out of pocket. Your support will help us ensure we can recover that expense and continue to bring this vision to life.

PRODUCTION CREW

The film has already been shot, and our amazing team brought their hard work, talent, skills, and resources to make this vision a reality. It is our top priority to compensate these talented artists and filmmakers daily for the invaluable contributions they made. The total cost to ensure fair compensation for everyone involved is $20,000.

FOOD EXPENSES

Up until now, everyone on the team has volunteered their time and energy for three long days of work on set, with 12-hour days. As a production, the least we could do was make sure our crew was well-fed to endure those demanding hours. The estimated cost for keeping everyone nourished during this time is $1,200.

Your support will help us honor the incredible work of our team and bring this project to its full potential. Thank you for being a part of this journey!

THE CALL TO ACTION

“Wait… didn’t you already film the project? Can I still pledge? ”

Great question — and the answer is: yes and yes :)

Yes, we already filmed the project and wrapped production (yay!). But here's the thing — we moved fast because we wanted to release the film in time for Mother’s Day. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt mother-daughter story, and that timing was really important to us. So we took a leap of faith.

What we didn’t have time for was launching a crowdfund campaign before filming. Risky? Definitely. But our cast and crew believed in this story so much, they jumped in anyway — donating their time, talent, and energy to help bring it to life.

Now, with the film shot and ready for post-production and release, we’re turning to you.

Your pledge will help us do two important things:

  1. Pay the talented artists and crew who made this possible.
  2. Cover post-production costs to ensure this film reaches its full potential.

We took the creative risk. Now we invite you to join us and be part of this story’s journey — one that honors mothers, daughters, and the bonds that hold us together.

The cast and crew have been generous, offering their time, talent, and resources to bring this story to the screen. Our top priority is to ensure everyone is fairly compensated for their hard work. Our goal is to raise $20,000 through crowdfunding. If you choose to support this project, you can do so by clicking "Make a Pledge" button on the top of our home page—it’s not cliché when I say every dollar counts. The Conselho team appreciates you more than words can express!

Can't contribute financially? You can still make a huge impact!

Help us spread the word by sharing our project on social media and telling your friends and family. Success is in the numbers—and every share counts. Your voice can help us reach the people who can help bring this vision to life. Thank you for being part of our journey!
