A visual poem about healing from childhood trauma, finding your voice, and empowerment.
I am a survivor. In the past two years I have done more work and made more progress on my healing than I ever had before. The poem Open Letter was written about ten years ago. At that time I had just learned that I had been abused as a child by a family doctor. I had buried all of it deep inside of my mind. I wrote the poem to get out what I was feeling. Through performing the poem in public at slam poetry events I found strength, and support.
I am also a cinematographer. I've always wanted to create something personal, and powerful that truly expresses my emotional journey. By collaborating with Studio 860 I will use dance and movement to create something memorable and inspiring. There is power in your story. There is power in finding your voice and using it to help yourself and others.
That is our message. Empowerment, and support.
When completed this project will be made available to organizations like Jane Doe No More so that it may reach the people that need to hear this message the most. I will be also be using the video we create to start a conversation with other survivors through public speaking events and interviews on Podcasts, YouTube Channels, Radio Shows, and more. The goal is to help as many people as possible through the positive message of the finished video.

This includes our director, producer, camera operator, jib operator, focus puller, audio production, lighting, and editing costs.
Contingency & Catering Budget
Costs $900
A contingency will cover any unforeseen costs that may arise during production. Catering is for feeding our cast and crew.

I've been in love with film and telling stories as long as I can remember. I've worked on movies, written and published short stories, acted, and even performed my poetry for an audience. Now it's time to tell a very personal story. It's time to take my story back, and share it with all of you.

Jolet Creary - Creative Co-Director / Dance Choreographer
Jolet Creary is a professional dance choreographer. She runs the Studio 860 dance studio along with her husband Pete. Collectively they have worked with the Alvin Ailey dance school, local Connecticut schools, and competed throughout the country. Jolet and her husband are both passionate teachers dedicated to the excellence and growth of their students.
Spencer Emanuel - Sound Recordist / Mixer
Spencer Emanuel is a long time professional sound recordist and composer for motion pictures, and commercials. His big heart and passion for what he does is what makes him one of a kind.
