The customer is always right... at least that's what teenage opposites, Sasha and Kent, were trained on how to approach their visitors at Crawley's Antiques. From Award Winning indigenous writer and director Ryder Hartman, this short blends 80s nostalgia, the supernatural and retail work experience.

Mission Statement

Most artists have to get a secondary job to make ends meet. The team behind this short is not a stranger to the retail, hospitality and service industries. One overarching theme kept coming back in conversations: we all had bad customer experiences. So instead of dwelling on them, we got creative.

The Story

It's closing time at Crawley's Antiques. Sasha and Kent, two high-schoolers, are about to start cashing out when a mysterious customer comes in waving around a severed vampire hand! What follows can only be described as chaos when a massive hulking creature follows her into the store. With a full moon hanging in the sky, this closing shift is about to get complicated.

Starring Lacey Oake as Sasha, Alleya Bourne as The Customer, Connor Raketti as Kent and Geordie Cheeseman as The Creature, The Customer is an 80's set horror comedy/monster hunter vignette, inspired by the practical effects of 80's horror classics such as An American Werewolf in London (1981), John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), and The Fly (1986). Our incredible team of SFX artists have created a terrifying new vision of a classic monster for the modern age.

Our team is currently in the pre-production stage; Chambers FX are halfway through creating a 8ft custom animatronic for our 'creature', our producers are figuring out schedules and logistics and our actors are rehearsing stunt work and routines for the film with the Stunt Garage team in Edmonton. Our production dates are May 29, 30 and 31 of this year and the money raised will go towards covering the costs of cast and crew salaries and the materials and labor that it took to make the giant piece of art by our Emmy winning-teams.

This is a completely handcrafted piece of artistry and will exclude any form of Gen-AI.
